During the Royal Ascot race meetings every year, London becomes the centre of global attention, especially among people that love watching the world’s finest racehorses compete for astronomical prize money that, this year, exceeds £7 million! Experiencing such a glorious event in person when the Greencoats open the Gates of Ascot Racecourse is without a doubt something worth including in your bucket list.

What is the Royal Ascot?
In a nutshell, it is the most popular race meeting in the country, founded in 1711 by Queen Anne, which gathers the best jockeys, trainers, and racehorses from the corners of the earth for a 5-day racing of top standards (and prize money totalling millions of pounds).
Those attending the annual race meeting get the chance to watch 18 Group races (Group One – 8 races), including the Queen Anne Stakes, the Diamond Jubilee Stakes and the Gold Cup, among others. However, the Royal Ascot also has a glamorous, fashionable side that attracts the attention of the social media with the elaborate hats worn by both members of the Royal Family (HM included) and visitors alike during the week!
The highlight? The event features a horse-drawn procession led by the royal carriage, from Windsor Castle to Ascot Racecourse every single day. So, even If you don’t fancy watching horse races, the procession is indeed a sublime spectacle itself.
Getting Tickets for Royal Ascot
For a budget-friendly experience, get Windsor Enclosure tickets and catch all the action without breaking the bank. Then, there are the Village Enclosure tickets that will open the way for all-day fun which includes live bands, DJs, along with cocktails and food from pop-up bars and restaurants.

If you want to take the experience to an upper level and get access to military bands and other superb entertainment and facilities (traditional end-of-day sing-alongs included), then you need to grab a Queen Anne Enclosure ticket. Now, you’ve probably heard of another type of ticket- that of the Royal Enclosure. This is only for those sponsored for membership.
Royal Ascot 2018: A Brief Overview
This year, the races begun last Tuesday 19th June. Each one of the five days hosts a total of six races with the first one taking place at 2pm sharp (following the Royal Procession – see above). The opening day included three Group One horse races (1) the St. James’s Palace Stakes, (2) the King’s Stand Stakes, and (3) the Queen Anne Stakes.
If you are a lucky ticket holder for Friday’s races, then you will gain a spot at Group One Commonwealth Cup and Group One Coronation Stakes. Nevertheless, the highlight of the day is the Diamond Jubilee Stakes (Group One); one of the most prestigious races in the world (starting at 4:20 pm).
